The Night Mode Update is Live!

We’re excited to mix it up this summer with new levels, new skins, and new tools. The Night Mode update is all about adding more variety to multiplayer. Launch back into the Clone Drone lobby with a brand new skin to take on new Team Battle levels.

These updates are available NOW on Steam and Xbox and will come to Switch, PlayStation and Epic Stores very soon.

Free Commentator Skins

Commentatron: I have an urgent announcement. The humans have been given free skins.

Analysis-Bot: That is not an “urgent” announcement. We give humans free things all the time, like hammers and brain surgeries.

Commentatron: All the humans have been given free skins that look like us.

Analysis-Bot: They are allowing rotted flesh piles to inhabit a body that looks like ME??

Analysis-Bot: I hate to ask, but did they give my skin… legs?

Commentatron: Does this answer your question?

Analysis-Bot: Hurry! Throw me into the trash compactor!!

New Team Battle Levels

When we launched Team Battles last year, we heard y’all when you said you wanted more levels. So we got to work on three levels with a very different feel from the standard arena, where you’ll travel to a completely different settings. It’s like summer vacation, only without the sunscreen, since your skin is a thick metal.

  • Desert – Your team must ascend a tall industrial structure surrounded by ancient pyramids to reach the Hill.
  • Lava Islands – The floor is literally lava. To claim the Hill, your team will have to clear molten hot rivers.
  • Deep Space – You and your teammates got launched into space. Use jump pads to leap through lunar rings, then conquer the Hill.

Night Mode, Fast Lane and Horse Power Supporter Packs

Supporter Packs are optional cosmetics that don’t affect gameplay, but do help us keep the Danger Zone up-and-running. (Robot combat arenas are futuristic, but their server bills need to be paid today.)

As our fearless leader Erik discussed last blog, we’re no longer selling Clonebux. We’re transitioning to Supporter Packs for skins. That said, your Clonebux still work in-game, now and forever. Players with Clonebux can use them to buy Supporter Packs or individual skins.

We bundled all the premium skins we released last year into two new Supporter Packs. Horse Power is a battalion of stallions featuring Horse Bot and Cowboy Bot. Fast Lane includes such rough riders as Fighter Pilot Bot and Mech Pilot Bot. Both packs contain a wide selection of weapons to equip for arena combat.

New Level Editor Tools

In the process of making these new trailers for the Supporter Packs, we needed to be able to show off the skins! That’s why we added new tools to the Level Editor that you can use, too:

  • Skin Override – Swap any enemy to wear any skin in the game, including their weapon.
  • Weapon Model Object – For when you just want to decorate or display a sword.
  • Sword Hit Particles – Extra little sparks VFX at a small scale for animating weapon clashes.

Next Update

The very first version of Clone Drone in the Danger Zone was released on Itch.io in 2016. We did some highly sophisticated math on our fingers and figured out that Clone Drone is turning 10 years old this year!

To celebrate our 10th anniversary, we’re creating a new anniversary challenge that’ll be a blast to the past, a Supporter Pack featuring warriors from across the galaxy, and if all goes according to plan, incredible new mech. It’s our birthday, but you get the presents? Unfair!
